What is it you think of when you hear healthy lifestyle? I think about eating a balanced diet, exercising regularly and managing stress effectively. Doing these things allows my body to function the way that it was built to work. I want to be able to go for a walk with my dog and husband and not feel weak and tired.Your body want proper fuel not junk. It wants to move not stay on the couch all day.One reason I find health so interesting is seeing the way my body changes and feels when I treat it with the respect it deserves.
Making healthy choices every day can affect more than your physical appearance. Making changes can increase both the length and quality of your life by boosting your immunity to disease and keeping your emotional health. Being emotionally healthy can help with with quality of life, productivity and healthy relationships. Why wouldn't you want these changes?
In the American Journal of Psychiatry it is proven that a Western diet high in saturated fat, refined carbohydrates and alcohol is associated with higher levels of depression and anxiety in than a diet rich in fruit, vegetables and whole grains. By eating a balanced diet that includes a combination of complex carbohydrates, lean protein and healthy fats you can protect your mental health.
Energy and Stamina Health
When you respect your body then your body will reward you with a lifetime of service in the form of high energy levels, strength and longevity. By exercising for just 30 minutes a day of moderate-intense aerobic exercise you set your body up for optimal health. By taking little steps such as parking further away at work or taking the stairs instead of the elevator you are allowing for change to happen. Think about it. When have you ever worked out and regretted it..Never! I know sometimes it is hard to wake up in the morning or find the energy at night to work out but don't think about how you feel before you workout think about how you will feel after. After I am done working out I have so much more energy and feel great. It’s my bodies way of saying it thank you. I needed that.
Beauty and Appearance
When you eat healthy and maintain your health you are allowing your body to stay and look youthful and have an attractive appearance. Your skin, hair and nails need vitamins such as vitamin A and C to stay healthy. They help prevent free radicals and damage involved in aging. Eating healthy and exercising prevent obesity. 69% of Americans are obese. Don’t be apart of that percentage. Do something good for yourself today. Grab an apple or orange and go for a walk. Just don’t forget the sunscreen! Protecting your skin from harmful rays will also help to prevent damage to skin and keep a younger appearance.
There are so many diseases in today's world. Family genes are uncontrollable but lifestyle factors like diet, exercise and avoidance of harmful habits can have a huge effect when preventing disease. The Mayo Clinic says that eating a diet low in saturated fat, exercising for 30 minutes daily and avoiding tobacco use reduces the risk of heart disease. Which is the most common chronic disease in the United States. Did you know that you can also help prevent cancer? Eating a nutritious diet and exercising can help prevent cancer according to the American Cancer Society.
